Stress is a condition that is characterized by emotional and mental strains that are always harmful. Stress affects the mental health of a person. Many things can cause stress. People react to the causes of stress differently. Our workplaces can be our source of stress. At the workplace, one can be affected by being unhappy with the job, working for long hours, and working under dangerous conditions. The other category of stress is the life stress. People mistake these substances for reducing the stress levels but in the real case they increase it. Despite alcohol being a depressant when consumed in large quantities, it is not an effective way of managing the stress. Another way of managing stress is getting enough sleep. This is so, since lack of enough sleep is capable of causing stress. There are also some relaxation techniques that one might try to help them reduce stress. Tests done to majority of these techniques confirm their efficiency.
Physical exercise is another method of managing stress. Stress is characterized by the increasing levels of stress hormones such as cortisol and adrenaline. Exercise, therefore, can be used as a surrogate to metabolize excessive stress hormones so that one can reach a more relaxed state. Even the slow exercises can still assist one to achieve these effects. One can even walk in fresh air. Working out on a daily basis is even a much better remedy.
Exercise helps in stress management following certain mechanisms. One of these mechanisms is through pumping of endorphins into one’s body. These are brain’s feel-good neurotransmitters. When someone exercises, they tend to forget about the irritations that they have had. Another way on how exercise reduces the stress levels is by improving someone’s mood. The symptoms of depression and increasing the confidence of a person are the ways that exercise assist in improving the mood of a person.
